The City of Rochester has been demoted to a town because of an administrative blunder.
A member of the City of Rochester noticed it had lost its status when he found it was not on the Governments latest list of cities.
Members of the former Rochester upon Medway council failed to appoint the local government officials needed to ensure the city would retain its status when the council was replaced by the Medway unitary authority in 1998.
