Ross Goobey inaugural scholarship awarded

The first scholarship to be awarded as part of the Alastair Ross Goobey Memorial Fund has been given to Rashedur Rahman of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute.

The memorial fund, run by Hermes Fund Managers and the International Corporate Governance Network, aims to support potential leaders in the field of corporate governance – an area in which Ross Goobey played a pivotal role.

Rahman has worked as a Research Associate at the Institute since 2006 and is actively working towards strengthening good corporate governance practice in Bangladesh.

His research has included a baseline study of corporate governance practices in Bangladesh as well as a study on corporate governance awareness there.

The Alastair Ross Goobey Memorial Fund will cover research and other costs including membership of the ICGN and travel.  The ICGN will also publish Rahman’s research at its conference next year.

Peter Montagnon, ICGN chairman, said: “Alastair Ross Goobey believed passionately in corporate governance.  I have no doubt that it would have pleased him greatly to see this first award go to a candidate who shares that passion, and who has been working for good governance across all sectors, including NGOs as well as public corporations.”
