Investment bank Rothschild has been hired to explore a privatisation of the Land Registry, according to Sky News.
A proposed sell-off reported to be worth more than £1bn was rejected less than 18 months ago by Liberal Democrat ministers.
Now Rothschild is said to have been asked to review sale options for the state-owned agency, which controls and records all property transactions in England and Wales.
Chancellor George Osborne could outline plans to explore a partial sell-off of the Land Registry during the Autumn Statement next week.
