Royal Exchange plans submitted

MRE - St Anns Square 2Trinity Investment Management and Starwood Capital have submitted a planning application to refurbish Manchester’s iconic Royal Exchange.

In a joint venture dubbed Trinistar Manchester, the 220,000 sq ft theatre, retail and office space will be remodelled.

The office space and reception in the Grade II listed building will be remodelled, and a new roof garden created.

Future plans over coming months would also see the retail units around the building upgraded.

The announcement comes after Starwood acquired the building from long-standing owner Prudential in April last year.

Trinity IM executive director Richard O’Boyle said: “As one of the city’s cornerstones, it is crucial that the Royal Exchange, a building of such stature and cultural importance, is well looked after.

“This investment will bring the scheme into the 21st century and will ensure that it retains its appeal from shoppers, theatregoers and businesses alike.”

Canning O’Neill is office agent for the building.
