Royal Mail is seeking a developer to buy the 750,000 sq ft mixed-use development opportunity at its former sorting hub in Reading.
Proposals for 370 houses, 300,000 sq ft of offices, shops, restaurants, a gym, and a hotel across Royal Mail’s 6-acre site were given planning consent this week.
Royal Mail Estates, the firm’s real estate arm, has said it will be flexible in order to satisfy Reading council’s affordable housing demands.
The company will work closely with the council and Network Rail on the development, and said it is keen to quickly appoint a developer.
Martin Gafsen, Royal Mail’s property director, said: “Royal Mail has a strong track record in using the proceeds from disposal of surplus property to invest in the mail operation.”
