Royal Mail to sort out Paddington site

Royal Mail Group has been given the go-ahead for a redevelopment of its vacant Paddington sorting and delivery site, W2. The block will be transformed into a 128-flat scheme with 100,000 sq ft of offices and shops at ground level. The project, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, is now likely to be sold as part of the Royal Mail’s cost-cutting plan. The scheme had been delayed by concerns over a payment to offset the lack of affordable housing. Royal Mail has now agreed a section 106 payment of £7.9m, of which £5m is for affordable housing. DP9 advised on planning; Stanhope is development adviser.
