Rugby residents fight 133.55ha theme park

Residents of Churchover, just north of Rugby, are fighting developers’ attempts for a huge theme park.

The 133.55ha (330 acre) park would have a 25,000-seat rugby stadium, a multi-screen cinema, hotel and night club.

The developers says the 80-home village is ideal because it lies within the borough of Rugby and is only a short drive from the high street.

Butresidents says they will lose sight of fields, find lanes swamped with traffic, and pubs filled with ravers. The proposal is going through the planning process but even if the council waves through the scheme it will still have to be approved by environment secretary John Prescott.
