Runnymede team conquer the Sierra Nevada

Weybridge-based developer Runnymede Homes recently completed the Three Peaks Challenge in Spain to raise more than £10,000 for CARE International.

On day one, Andrew Beaumont, Martin Brown, Tony Franklin, Julian Grundy and Mark Knight took an uphill bike ride across the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain – from the village of Capiliera to a mountain refuge at 2,500m elevation. The second day involved a 10-hour circular walk that took in 3,479m Mulhacen, the highest mountain in mainland Spain.

Day three saw the team cycle to the 3,396m summit of Veleta, the second-highest mountain in mainland Spain. The final ascent forced some to push their bikes to the summit, only to turn around and face the longest mountain bike descent in Europe.
