Russell Brand-backed estate sold to Dolphin Living

Russell-Brand-New-Era-EstateA 1930s Hackney housing estate where Russell Brand was campaigning for affordable rents to be safeguarded, has been sold by Westbrook Partners.

Dolphin Living, part of the Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation, has agreed to acquire Hackney’s New Era Estate, N1. The vendor is a fund managed by Westbrook Partners.

The sale agreement follows controversy after residents at the Whitmore Road estate were facing massive rent hikes, resulting in a campaign to protect them- backed by celebrity Brand.

Jon Gooding, chief executive, Dolphin Living said: “The deal we have reached with Westbrook helps us to deliver on our primary objective, which is to provide high quality, rented homes for working Londoners and to guarantee the future of the New Era Estate.”

The purchase comprises 96 flats and 12 small shops.  The Benyon Estate will continue to provide management services during a transitional period to ensure service standards are maintained whilst also handing over to Dolphin Living’s own property managers.

There will be no rent increases throughout 2015.
