S1 Developments plans 545-bed Edinburgh student scheme

S1 Developments has lodged plans for a 545-bed student scheme at the former Tynecastle High School in Edinburgh.

The scheme will see a mix of cluster rooms in 59 flats, plus 94 studios. These will be provided through restoration of the Category B listed school building, designed by architect John Alexander Carfrae.

The original school hall will be repurposed as a central amenity hub, sitting within a collegiate-style courtyard space, providing shared amenities for students.

S1 Developments has lined up charities Love Gorgie Farm and People Know How as the preferred operators of the community facilities.

Dan Teague, director at S1 Developments, said: “The original school building has fallen into a sorry state since it ceased being a school over a decade ago. While the redevelopment is challenging, we are hopeful that the proposed use brings with it an opportunity to save and renovate the original school building and continue its educational use, benefiting the local community.”
