J Sainsbury is backing a threat of legal action against the Government. An embarrassing planning error by civil servants has forced the construction of a flagship 4,645 sq m (50,000 sq ft) superstore in Coleraine, Northern Ireland to grind to a halt.
Stannifer, Sainsbury’s property developer in the Province, has written to the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. It says it will take action to recover loses unless its planning consent is renewed promptly. If not, the store will have to be demolished.
