Sainsbury’s takes control of Bicester redevelopment


 


Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has kick-started the stalled redevelopment of Bicester town centre taking over development of the £70m Oxfordshire project.


 


The supermarket giant has bought local developer Stockdale Land out of the development, which includes the development of a new supermarket, cinema, shops, cafes, library and a 500-space car park.


 


Local authority Cherwell district council is backing Sainsbury’s and its executive committee will next week grant the supermarket exclusive rights to pursue the development over the next 12 months.


 


Stockdale will be retained as project manager.


 


The scheme stalled last year because the unavailability of development finance.
