Sainsbury’s to open two stores in Glasgow

Food retailer Sainsbury’s is to open two convenience stores in Glasgow as part of its plans to increase its presence in Scotland.

Sainbury’s is to open 3,000 sq ft Local stores in Giffnock and in the Queen’s Park area. They follow the recent openings of convenience stores in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

Sainsbury’s opened 51 new convenience stores last year and has plans for 75-100 more new stores in 2010/11.

The group is also investing in its main supermarket estate in Scotland and has recently opened a supermarket in Strathaven.

Jim Bishop, regional acquisitions manager for Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to confirm these deals which are in prime locations for us and demonstrate our commitment to increasing our presence in Scotland.  Scotland is a key growth area for Sainsbury’s and we have immediate requirements for more convenience store space.”

Savills advised Sainsbury’s.
