City grandee Martin Scicluna is set to be named as the new chairman of Sainsbury’s, in an announcement which could come as early as tomorrow, to replace David Tyler who has been in the role for almost nine years.
Scicluna currently chairs property company Great Portland Estates and insurance firm RSA, and was handed a FTSE 100 Non-Executive Director of the Year award for his work at the latter earlier this year.
It is thought the appointment could be made at the UK supermarket’s annual general meeting tomorrow. Sky News first reported that he had been chosen for the role.
