Britannia Hotels has agreed to sell the London Road Fire Station in Manchester city centre after a long-running skirmish with the council over the future of the site.
Britannia has instructed Christie + Co to sell the Grade II listed building as a hotel opportunity.
The owner secured consent to turn the defunct fire station into a 227-bed hotel in 2010, but has failed to build it out despite pressure from the local administration.
It represents a landmark 100,000 sq ft hotel redevelopment opportunity on one of Manchester’s most historic sites.
Manchester had an attempt to CPO the building in 2011 rebuffed, with Britannia pledging to develop the site quickly. The council then set a new CPO deadline in November 2014.
Britannia responded with an 11th-hour assurance that it would enter a development agreement on the site.
