Almost 180 new homes have been approved in Salford as part of a wider council and community-owned housing project.
Salford City Council’s planning committee has approved 132 houses and 45 apartments at the former Harrop Fold High School in Little Hulton, with more than 50% to be available as affordable housing.
The high school moved in 2008, with the redundant buildings being demolished the following year. The site has been derelict for more than a decade.
The scheme is part of a wider development project of 417 new council and community-owned homes. In total, 92 of the homes will be transferred to Derive RP, a housing company owned by Salford City Council, with the other properties to be made available for the private rented sector or for sale.
Deputy city mayor Tracy Kelly said: “This development will help us regenerate Little Hulton, which has a considerable shortfall of affordable housing, and will replenish an extremely overgrown site that has been crying out for a development like this for some time.”
