Salford City Council has given the go-ahead to English Cities Fund’s proposals to deliver new Passivhaus homes on Peru Street, Greater Manchester.
The move follows an application submitted by the partnership, which is formed of Homes England, Muse and L&G, back in May.
The plans include the delivery of 100 sustainable and affordable flats on Peru Street in Salford. The scheme forms part of the wider Salford Crescent development.
It is anticipated that the new homes will start on site in early 2024.
This will be the second development of sustainable and affordable flats that ECF is bringing forward, following Greenhaus, a Passivhaus-certified development that is due to complete in March 2024.
Greenhaus is a 96-home development being brought forward for local housing association, Salix, and is a part of ECF’s £1bn Salford Central regeneration.
Passivhaus buildings are designed to reduce energy bills by up to 90% by being built to rigorous energy efficiency standards, which are independently tested and verified.
ECF development manager Joe Stockton said: “As a business and as a partnership, we have both a responsibility and an opportunity to create future-proofed places that respond to the climate and cost of living crises.”
