The Salford Partnership is seeking £25m under the Government’s Single Regeneration Budget to fund a £78m plan to breath life back into a North-West area suffering “severe and rapid decline”.
Salford City Council, lead partner in the alliance of public and private sector organisations, drew up the plan last year following a visit to the inner city areas of Seedley and Lagworthy by Home Secretary Jack Straw, who called for its “urgent regeneration”. Other public and private sector sources are expected to provide the remaining £53m.
The seven-year action plan will attempt to bring 350 dwellings back into use, to repair 875 homes and provide 550 new social and private houses. In addition, the scheme also hopes to boost economic development opportunities to create new jobs for local people.
