FairBriar International has been granted planning consent for the second phase of its 24.5-acre Middlewood Locks development in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Phase two of the mixed-use scheme will consist of four buildings of up to 10 storeys with a total of 546 flats close to the business district in Manchester city centre.
The development by FairBriar, a joint venture between Scarborough Group International, Top Spring International Holdings and Metro Holdings, is expected to deliver 2,215 new homes and 900,000 sq ft of commercial space.
Scarborough said the site, which has a development value of £1bn, will create more than 7,000 jobs for the region.
Paul Kelly, development director at Scarborough, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for the second phase of Middlewood Locks. This is the result of a huge amount of hard work on the part of Salford City Council and our development team to create the best possible scheme. We can now look forward to delivering a substantial number of new homes and jobs to the region and help secure the wider generation of Salford and Greater Manchester.”
FairBriar was granted consent last December for the first phase of the development, which is expected to be completed in October 2018.
