Samsonite has packed its bags for a new flagship store on Oxford Street.
The premium luggage brand will take a five-year lease on 4,687 sq ft at 285 Oxford Street, W1, which is close to the intersection with Regent Street at Oxford Circus.
The freehold for the building is owned by US based PH&RSA Management, while the leaseholder is a clothing company called Jamino.
The store, once a branch of Boots, has been empty for some time.
Knight Frank partner Josh Braid, who acted for the landlord, said: “After a challenging few years in which vacancy has increased, Oxford Street is bouncing back, boosted by the opening of the Elizabeth Line and a long-overdue cut to business rates which makes store space on the street more affordable.”
The move is a further boost to the capital’s most famous high street, following the decision by Ikea to open a flagship store in the former Topshop at Oxford Circus.
Braid said the firm was “seeing strong interest for international retail brands and new leisure concepts for space that will further enhance its offer”.
