Samsung is in advanced talks to lease an entire office in Chertsey, Surrey, from Japanese pharmaceutical company Astellas.
The South Korean conglomerate will take up the circa 100,000 sq ft available at the 2000 Hillswood Drive office, when Astellas vacates its current European headquarters later this year.
Samsung already occupies Legal & General’s 2000 Hillswood next door, which it will continue to lease. The office is also close to 100,000 sq ft in size.
It is understood that Samsung will consolidate some of its existing offices in the surrounding area into 2000 Hillswood Drive over the next few years.
Elsewhere in Surrey, Samsung also has office space at M&G Real Estate’s The Heights, in Weybridge.
Astellas, which bought 2000 Hillswood Drive in 2011 from Electronic Arts for around £17m, is in the process of leasing new office space in Surrey, in Woking and Addlestone.
It is understood the Japanese firm will take up two floors (20,000 sq ft) at Royal London’s Space in Woking, the first new office scheme in the town in around five years, and around 40,000 sq ft at LaSalle Investment Management’s Bourne Business Park. Space is a 85,000 sq ft scheme while Bourne offers over 70,000 sq ft of offices.
An Astellas press spokesperson said: “As part of our ongoing real estate strategy development, we have made a decision to relocate later this year from our current building at 2000 Hillswood Drive on the Homewood Park estate in Chertsey.
“We intend to relocate close by, minimising disruption for our people, to new sites which better meet our current and future business needs.”
The firm added that the relocation will involve splitting up its European HQ and UK affiliate, although they will “remain in close proximity to each other”.
Cushman & Wakefield is advising Astellas, and Matthew and Goodman is representing Samsung.
Samsung did not respond to requests for comment. Cushman and Matthews & Goodman declined to comment.
