Savills man linked to racist tweet arrested

Greater Manchester Police has arrested the Savills employee who allegedly posted a racist tweet about Black England football stars after the team lost the Euros final to Italy.

The 37-year-old suspect presented himself at Cheadle Heath police station this morning. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act and later released under investigation, said the police.

Savills has suspended the employee, who claims his Twitter account was hacked.

The tweet in question, which has since been deleted, used a racial slur to attack players following England’s defeat on Sunday night.

Following the incident Savills said: “Savills is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce. A full investigation will be carried out in regards to this unacceptable incident.

“Savills abhors and has zero tolerance to any form of racism and racial discrimination and is appalled by the racist comments in these tweets. Savills is immediately investigating and will take appropriate action.”

Its investigation, alongside the police’s, is ongoing.
