Savills has raised more than £47m from its first ever January auction.
The sale attracted double the number of bidder registrations than comparable auctions in 2023, with 160 lots sold and a 78% success rate.
Highlights of the sale included a two-bedroom terraced house in the heart of Chelsea, which sold for just over £2m, and a closely fought-over sub-divided Notting Hill townhouse, which sold for £1.4bn.
A terraced property in Cricklewood, comprising six flats, achieved £350,000 over its guide of £1.29m.
Outside of the capital, a detached five-bedroom bungalow on a generous plot in Brixham, Devon, achieved a hammer price of £508,000.
A prime, high-yielding retail investment opportunity in Chesterfield attracted a flurry of competitive bids to sell at £457,000, more than double its original guide price.
Robin Howeson, head of Savills Auctions, said: “Yesterday’s auction marked an important milestone for Savills’ auctions business with it being the first ever sale to be held in January. Following a record-breaking 2023, it was evident that sentiment hadn’t slowed, with a success rate of 78% being achieved. On the day there was a good level of buyer confidence, most likely aided by a stabilising of interest rates, and it’s clear to see that there is certainly a year-round calling for auctions.”
