Albert Scardino abandoned his £20m bid for Nottingham Forest after backer Mercury Asset Management withdrew. This leaves the way open for Bridgford, the rival group led by Nigel Wray and Irving Scholar, to win support at tonight’s shareholders’ meeting. The Guardian’s report omitted to mention Scardino had quit.
