Brookfield Asset Management has appointed Julian Schiller senior vice-president in the firm’s global Private Funds Group in London.
Schiller, who joins from Jones Lang LaSalle Corporate Finance, will focus on capital-raising initiatives for Brookfield’s pooled funds, joint ventures and co-investments and will report to Leo van den Thillart, managing partner and head of the Private Funds Group.
Schiller will look after European and Middle Eastern investors as well as assist in broader business development activities for the real estate group, working alongside Barry Blattman, senior managing partner, who recently relocated to London, and Martin Jepson, who recently joined Brookfield Office Properties in London as senior vice-president, development and investment.
Schiller headed the private funds advisory team at Jones Lang LaSalle Corporate Finance, advising on equity placement, joint ventures, secondary market and recapitalisation transactions, as well as other traditional fund advisory responsibilities. He joined Jones Lang LaSalle in 2006.
With Schiller’s arrival, Brookfield has hired 94 staff in Europe since the beginning of 2011.
Van den Thillart said: “Julian’s capital-raising experience in the UK and wider European market will be extremely valuable as we develop our strategies for a number of important initiatives that we are planning over the next few years.
“Real estate in Europe has been identified as a key area of future growth for Brookfield and we are very pleased to be able to announce the appointment of a senior real estate executive of Julian’s calibre.”
