Schroders’ plans for 63-storey City tower poised for approval

Schroders Capital Real Estate’s plans to develop a 63-storey office tower at 55 Bishopsgate, EC2, have been recommended for approval by City of London planners.

The investor, working with development partner Stanhope, submitted plans for two adjoining towers of 63 and 22 storeys, providing 1,110,000 sq ft of commercial space, of which 860,000 sq ft will be offices.

The Arney Fender Katsalidis-designed proposal also includes 31,000 sq ft of community, cultural or educational space, and 1,262 bicycle parking spaces.

The site is currently occupied by a nine-storey office building with some ground-floor retail.

The proposal has been recommended for approval despite complaints from Historic England and the Twentieth Century Society.

The two bodies stated that the site should be considered a Non-Designated Heritage Asset as it is located opposite the Grade II listed Mewes and Davis building at 60 Bishopsgate.
