Schroders strikes public-private deal in South Yorkshire

Schroders Capital and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority have joined forces to support the delivery of economic, housing and infrastructure growth across the region.

This new partnership will explore opportunities to deliver housing and infrastructure projects as well as develop investment strategies.

The deal comes shortly after the creation of the Great North initiative, which was endorsed by deputy prime minister Angela Rayner. The move has seen northern mayors coming together to unlock opportunities for the region, which will be supported with funding from the central government which “local communities need to write their own stories of success”.

Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire’s mayor, said: “South Yorkshire needs a bigger and better economy. But we’re only going to build that new future by working in partnerships with companies and investors, creating jobs and opportunity for everyone who lives here.”

Paul Myles, director at Schroders Capital and head of LGPS, said: “This partnership aligns with our commitment to investing in projects that not only deliver financial returns but also foster community development and resilience in regions such as South Yorkshire.”
