Science Museum gets hotel makeover

Plans to transform Birmingham’s former Science Museum into a 190-bedroom hotel will be heard this week.

Birmingham-based private developer RO St Bernards’ and serviced apartment operator Staycity’s proposal to turn the site into a £15m hotel will go before planners on Thursday.

The development will be one of the first in the recently announced city centre enterprise zone. Subject to consent, it is scheduled to open in 2014.

It will be Staycity’s second hotel in Birmingham. Its first is at the Arcadian Centre on Hurst Street.

Property 252 advised ROSB on the project. Colliers International and GBR Phoenix Beard are joint letting agents.
