Independent music retailer Fopp has announced plans to open at least four stores across the UK by the end of 2002, as part of a rapid expansion programme.
From humble beginnings as a one-man record stall in Glasgow, Fopp has become one of the top 10 fastest-growing retail businesses in Scotland. It is looking for leasehold or freehold properties in UK cities, particularly where there is a vibrant music scene and a young student population.
The ninth Fopp store will open at the end of November 2001 at a 418 sq m (4,500 sq ft) redeveloped Victorian Post Office building in Nottinghams Queen Street.
Fopp also plans to open a store in the Devonshire Quarter of Sheffield. The shop is being refurbished and extended to offer 232 sq m (2,500 sq ft), with doors expected to open in early November 2001.
Further locations being considered include Bath, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Camden, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Guildford, Islington, Kensington, Kingston upon Thames, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Oxford, Reading, Soho, Southampton and York.
