Scotland’s nascent build-to-rent industry has expanded by one-third in a year, with 7,200 homes in the pipeline.
More than half of these, some 3,971 homes, are planned for Glasgow, according to analysis from Rettie & Co.
A further 1,943 homes are planned for Edinburgh, 1,094 in Aberdeen and 228 in Dundee.
Rettie & Co’s head of BTR operations, Gillian McLees, said: “Institutional investment and major site acquisitions from the likes of Apache capital, L&G, Drum, Stamford and Platform_ are now creating a more diverse BTR market, with planned schemes set to offer a range of service and affordability levels.”
McLees highlights the recent emergence of mid-market rent and family rental housing through PfP Capital and Sigma.
She said public and private sector collaboration, with cross-party agreement on housing strategy, was essential to maximising the offering and boosting efficiencies.
McLees said: “With the perception of BTR homes, for many, still being one of “yuppie flats”, it is important that the industry is open, honest and positive in discussions on the housing crisis we face and how BTR can be part of the solution.”
