Scotland’s first minister Jack McConnell, has pledged a “full and thorough investigation” of the blast at ICL and Stockline Plastics, in Glasgow, on Tuesday.
The factory owners said the cause of the explosion, which reduced the building to rubble, had not been confirmed.
They said it would be inappropriate to comment further until the rescue effort was completed. A Health and Safety Executive investigations team has been assembled but is yet to start work. Factory workers maintain an industrial gas oven exploded without warning.
