Scots rush to beat new tax rates

Estate agents in Scotland are expecting a rush of people buying prime housing before new tax charges apply in April.

A new land and buildings transaction tax will increase the tax bill on properties worth more than £324,300.

The Scottish Property Federation has warned that commercial property values may be hit under the new tax regime, which will see higher rates of tax on commercial transactions above £1.95m.
