The UK’s largest private landowner has expressed about the Scottish National Party’s plans for land reform, which include powers of intervention.
The Duke of Buccleuch said the likelihood was that he would reduce exposure to land over a five to 10-year period, primarily because of the political situation, although he didn’t give details of the size of any sales. He said he was also concerned about funding for the future development of Buccleuch lands.
The Duke is not alone in expressing concern – Scottish Land and Estates has expressed “extreme concern,” while the Scottish Conservatives called the plans “simply unacceptable.”
