Falling house prices in Scotland mean that owners are leaving properties empty as they wait for a recovery before putting their houses up for sale, research by Shelter Scotland shows.
Average house prices fell by 8.4% in Q1, the largest drop for at least 10 years. Sales hit a record high, although that has been attributed to a rush to complete sales prior to tax changes.
Kristen Hubert, of Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, said there were 27,000 long-term empty homes across Scotland.
