Scottish village development site for sale

NHS Lothian is selling 87ha of development land on the site of the former Bangour Village psychiatric hospital.

CBRE and Justin Lamb Associates have been instructed to sell the site, in Dechmont, West Lothian, which has scope for 891 homes, a primary school, and ancillary development.

There are 15 listed buildings on the site. A decision on planning is expected this summer.

The Hippolyte Blanc-designed hospital was formerly the Edinburgh District Asylum. It closed in 2004.

Stewart Taylor, senior director at CBRE, said: “Bangour Village hospital offers an exceptional opportunity to acquire a significant site in the heart of Scotland’s central belt on the M8 corridor that is suitable for a variety of uses. Considerable work has been done by the vendor and their consultants to prepare the site for sale.”

Justin Lamb, director at Justin Lamb Associates, added: “Bangour is probably the best opportunity in Scotland to deliver a new village within an existing mature landscape setting.”
