Scramble to buy £30m Surrey field

A 77-acre piece of land in Surrey is believed to have become the most expensive field in the country when its sale was rushed through on Wednesday.

The field, part of the Parkwood Estate, has planning permission for a Palladian style mansion. The sale was rushed through at 11.45pm on Wednesday, saving the buyer £1.4m in stamp duty. The pasture was on the market with Beauchamp Estates and Grosvenor Billinghurst and is believed to have been sold to buyers from the Middle East.

The site had previously been owned by the Candy brothers, who bought it in 2007 and secured the planning permission.
