SDL Bigwood bucks the trend at latest sale

SDL-BigwoodBirmingham-based auction house SDL Bigwood raised more than £15m at its latest sale.

Out of 129 lots offered, 106 sold –  an 83% success rate and its second-best sales result.

Head of auctions Jonnie Hackett said: “Any trepidation we may have had about our first auction after the referendum vote was swept aside as soon as bidding started.”

In Birmingham, a 4,520 sq ft parcel of land in Selly Oak, sold for £187,000 from a guide of £20,000, while a 5,400 sq ft site in Edgbaston sold for £200,000 off a £60,000 guide.

A former care home arranged as 49 flats sold prior to the auction for more than £2.5m off a guide of £1.4m.

A three-storey house in Manchester for which only external viewings were allowed was offered with a guide of £150,000, but sold for £375,000.

The sale took place at Aston Villa Football Club on 7 July.
