Archlane has announced that Morgans Hotel Group, under the Mondrian brand, will be the hotel operator in the refurbished Sea Containers House on London’s South Bank, SE1.
As revealed by EG on 9 May, Mondrian will deliver a 356-bedroom hotel with public restaurant and rooftop bar, subject to planning permission. It will form part of the extensive internal and external refurbishment of Sea Containers House.
The Morgans Hotel Group operates two other hotels in central London: Sanderson and St Martins Lane. A Mondrian hotel is located in Miami, LA and New York, with two more hotels planned in Doha and the Bahamas. Mondrian at Sea Containers House will be the first European hotel in the brand.
The project team submitted a planning application to Southwark Council in June and a decision on the application is expected next month.
Marcus Rose of Deerbrook, asset manager for Archlane, said: “We worked hard to find the right fit for Sea Containers House and the South Bank. Mondrian is exactly what we feel is needed to help re-invigorate the local area.”
Michael Gross, chief executive officer of Morgans Hotel Group, said: “It’s rare to find such a good site for a hotel in the centre of a major city, close to many cultural attractions as well as business hubs.”
