Second-home ownership up 30% since 2000

WEEKEND PAPERS: Second-home ownership has jumped 30% since 2000, according to research by thinktank the Resolution Foundation.

Some 5.2m people in the UK owned two or more properties as of 2014, up from 1.6m in 2000, the research shows. Half of the second homes are owned by so-called baby boomers, while a further quarter are owned by the Generation X demographic.

In contrast, the percentage of adults owning any property has fallen to 60% from the near 66% high reached in 2002.
