Section 106 row halts landmark Derby scheme

Norseman's £150m Derby office scheme

Plans for one Derby’s largest developments have been put on hold due to a dispute over a section 106 payment.

The local council is demanding that developer Norseman Investments pays a £900,000 contribution towards infrastructure, however Norseman is offering just £300,000, which the authority claims is far too low.

Derby council has now deferred its decision to grant consent for the 400,000 sq ft business quarter development until 14 January 2010 to allow the pair to come to an agreement.

Plans for the £92m business district form the first phase of Derby’s Castleward regeneration area. The site, now branded as One Derby, will include: a 100bedroom hotel, five office blocks, restaurants, cafes and a public square.

Norseman Investments was unavailable for comment.

Salloway & Co and Colliers CRE are letting agents on the scheme.
