Selfridges abandons plans for more regional stores

Selfridges has dropped plans to develop a string of regional stores.

The new owner, Galen Weston, the Canadian billionaire who bought the group for £628m in July, wants investment to be concentrated on the flagship outlet in Oxford Street.

Selfridges has scrapped plans to open a store in Bristol.

It will continue to investigate the markets in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Leeds, but any developments are unlikely.

Selfridges has two opened two outlets in Manchester and Birmingham. It has also bought a site for development in Glasgow where it plans another outlet.
