Sellar unveils revised plans for Portsmouth FC scheme

Sellar Property Group and Portsmouth Football Club have unveiled revised plans for their £600m waterfront development.

Portsmouth FC

The scheme will comprise a 36,000-seat stadium, more than 1m sq ft of residential and a multi-use indoor exhibition centre with an all-seater capacity of 10,000.

Sellar and Portsmouth FC were forced to move from Portsmouth’s Hard site (next to the city’s dockyards) to Horsea Island last October after the government decided to site two new super aircraft carriers at the Royal Navy’s nearby base.

The new scheme will also include a naval diving and training facility.

Portsmouth’s existing ground – the 17-acre Fratton Park – will be redeveloped as a mix of low-rise residential apartments and shops.

The scheme has been designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

Construction is expected to start in 2010.
