Clothing chain Fat Face today said it had recruited a leading retailing figure to its board as it bids for 100 stores and further profits growth.
Stephen Sunnucks, who has been chief executive of New Look and held senior roles at Marks & Spencer and Burton Group, will be a non-executive director at the group, which was founded by ski fanatics Tim Slade and Jules Leaver in 1988.
He joins the lifestyle brand at a promising time after figures for the year to end of May showed sales rose 48% to £45m and operating profits lifted 41% to £4.2m.
Fat Face – the name is inspired by Le face, an Olympic black run in Val d’Isere – currently has 87 stores in the UK and France but is looking to have 100 outlets within the next year. As well as clothing, the chain sells footwear, jewellery, accessories and kit such as surfboards.
Chief executive Louise Barnes said the new financial year had started well with the company on track for another year of “significant profit growth”.
She said the arrival of Sunnucks would provide a further boost: “The talent and experience he will bring to Fat Face will enable us to develop the brand and take the business to the next level.”
