West Midlands mayor Andy Street has appointed Seven Capital’s managing director Phil Carlin to head up the new combined authority’s business advisory group.
Seven Capital is one of the region’s most active property developers, with 15 schemes in Birmingham either complete, under construction or in planning, representing 2.3m sq ft of development worth nearly £700m.
The business advisory group will advise the mayor on the concerns of West Midlands businesses and identify ways businesses can support the WMCA’s economic plans.
The group will be consist of representatives from the region’s three chambers of commerce, the Confederation of British Industry, the Institute of Directors, and Federation of Small Businesses.
Carlin said: “The only way the region’s economy is going to continue to grow is if the public and private sectors work together closely.
“The regeneration in our towns and cities has built on this approach and I hope to be able to play my part by making sure the mayor hears loud and clear the concerns and issues of businesses of all sizes and all sectors.”
