SevenCapital gets green light for £200m Connaught Square

Birmingham City Council has approved SevenCapital’s £200m Connaught Square development.

The plans for the regeneration propose 700 flats totalling 500,000 sq ft. They were recommended for approval last week after being deferred from the previous planning committee.

The development comprises four buildings of four to 28 storeys. Original plans submitted in 2016 proposed 940 flats. This was reduced following feedback from council officers and planning committee members in 2017. Commercial space was also reduced from 62,850 sq ft to 42,000 sq ft.

Damien Siviter, director at SevenCapital, said: “Connaught Square is already one of the most significant and talked about regeneration projects to date in Birmingham, as it bridges the gap between the main city centre and the growing creative quarter.”

Bal Sohal, chairman at SevenCapital added: “Connaught Square will be a flagship development for SevenCapital and for Birmingham. Ten years in planning, this is a project that will transform a prominent area within Birmingham city centre, create jobs and homes and build a vibrant, dynamic space for residents and visitors alike to enjoy for years to generations.

“Through developments like this, Birmingham continues to move forward demonstrating its relevance as a truly world class city and SevenCapital is proud to be able to make a significant contribution by helping the city to build and maintain this momentum.”

Work on site is expected to begin this summer, with completion of the first phase expected in March 2022 and full completion by August 2023.
