Severn Trent in talks for Derbyshire hub

Utilities company Severn Trent is in detailed talks with South Derbyshire District Council to locate a new major rail freight hub in the region.

The new hub would be located on a 620-acre site between Etwall and Eggington.

Severn Trent, through Etwall Land – a company specially formed to work on the project – is looking to appoint a preferred development partner to bring forward the site. The company hopes to sign a deal next month.

Proposals for the site were originally mooted in 2008. However, plans were mothballed due to economic conditions.

No detailed plans have yet been submitted, but original proposals included 1m sq ft of warehouse and distribution space, plus a heat and power plant.
