Shaftesbury preps 3,000 al fresco dining seats for lockdown lifting

Shaftesbury has set out al fresco dining plans on its West End estate as it prepares to welcome back visitors when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

With non-essential retail reopening on 12 April, Shaftesbury said it had worked with its tenants in Carnaby, Chinatown, Fitzrovia, Seven Dials and Soho as well as Westminster and Camden councils to provide outdoor dining space for 3,000 visitors that meets social distancing guidelines.

Julia Wilkinson, Shaftesbury’s restaurant director, said: “We are extremely excited to welcome visitors back to the West End after what has been a difficult 12 months for everyone, and we are especially grateful to all those who have put in a huge amount of work to prepare our villages for reopening.

“We continue to follow all government guidelines and have adapted our extensive al fresco dining areas to allow visitors to enjoy our vibrant shops, restaurants, cafes and bars in a safe and comfortable environment, which in turn will assist our tenants with their recovery efforts.”

The company’s plans cover 165 eateries, with communal seating in Carnaby, Chinatown and Seven Dials for restaurants offering takeaway service.
