Shaftesbury sets out net zero roadmap

Shaftesbury has pledged to be a net-zero business by 2030 as it publishes its sustainability roadmap.

The West End REIT has established a sustainability committee to oversee the evolution of its sustainability strategies and activities and to monitor its progress on achieving those goals.

The Net Zero Carbon Roadmap is intended to provide a clear path to achieving its goals within nine years. The committee will be chaired by senior independent director Richard Akers, who is also non-exec chair of Redrow, and will include CEO Brian Bickell and non-exec director Helena Coles.

Bickell said: “The commitment to sustainability is nothing new for Shaftesbury. Over many years, we have placed it at the core of our business.”

However, he added that it was important that the landlord of 16 acres of central London set a clear target and example to tenants and partners. “That is why we are setting ourselves the target of becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030 and achieving this for our own operations by 2025. The net zero carbon roadmap we have released today will be instrumental in helping us to achieve this.”
