Shearer Property Group and Standard Life’s proposed regeneration of Newbury centre is moving forward after news that the scheme will not be called in.
West Berkshire District Council (WBC) planning committee had resolved to grant detailed planning consent for the scheme in April, when the office of the Deputy Prime Minister reviewed the application.
The application has since been reviewed and not called in, enabling the WBC to obtain compulsory purchase powers to facilitate the development.
The 450,000 sq ft scheme will include 50 retail units, a department store designed for Debenhams and a potential link into the existing Marks & Spencer, set around public space.
The scheme also includes 187 residential units, 30% affordable, and 640 below-ground car parks.
Sutton Griffin Architects and Building Design Partnership acted as architects and masterplanners. Drivas Jonas is advising WBC.
