Sheffield “Heart of the City” block approved

Heart-of-City-Charles-St-Sheffield-570

The final building in Sheffield’s Heart of the City project is set to be approved next week, along with a £16m redevelopment of the former head postal office.

A 12-storey office block, designed by Hodder + Partners, will be built on a vacant plot at Charles Street, as the third office block in the Heart of the City plan, which has been going through the planning system for almost 20 years.

The masterplan was drawn up by Terry Farrell and Partners in 1996 to kick-start city centre regeneration, with 355,000 sq ft of offices and 118,000 sq ft of leisure space.

A 50,000 sq ft museum also featured in the plan.

The schemes were recommended for approval in the report of the director of regeneration and development services, which will be considered by planners next week.

Separately, a multi-storey car park with 530 spaces was recommended for approval on the site of the former head post office at Fitzalan Square.
